Sven Gerjets joins The Gap Inc. as chief technology officer (CTO) after occupying the same role at Mattel, Inc.

The Gap Inc. named a new chief technology officer (CTO), Sven Gerjets, as the latest hire to join its C-suite.

Gerjets will report directly to CEO Richard Dickson, who announced the appointment June 17 in a message to Gap employees. Gerjets previously held a role at Mattel, Inc., where he had been executive vice president and chief technology officer since July 2017. Prior to that, he was chief information officer at Time Warner Cable. He also held technology- and ecommerce-related roles at Pearson, DirecTV, Symantec and AT&T, among other companies.

The Gap Inc. is No. 20 in the Top 1000, Digital Commerce 360’s database of the largest online retailers in North America. Gap owns its namesake brand Gap, as well as Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta. Digital Commerce 360 categorizes it as an Apparel & Accessories retailer.

Dickson had also held a C-suite position at Mattel, where he was president and chief operating officer from 2014 through August 2023. That’s when he joined Gap as CEO.

Gerjets “has led organizations at scale,” Dickson said in his message to Gap employees, “transforming legacy platforms to digital-first environments, modernizing direct-to-consumer technology to support front-end order management, warehouse management and point-of-sale solutions.”

Dickson said the adoption of “the right technologies” can help Gap improve its operational efficiency, product creation and customer engagement.

Gap recently announced a 3.4% year-over-year increase in net sales in its fiscal first quarter ended May 4. The quarter marked the first time during CEO Richard Dickson’s current campaign to turn the company around that its Athleta, Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy brands all posted positive comparable sales increases.
